FAMILIES THAT PLAY TOGETHER....STAY TOGETHER!!!

Snowmobiling; By Andrea Hoffmann;

I want you all to think of your favorite season. Imagine the first nice sunny days of spring...or the thrill of the summer water slides, or the smells of Thanksgiving amongst friends and family. Imagine the cool, soft rain of spring, or the warmth of the sun in summer, the beautiful colors of fall. But something is missing. No true Wisconsinite would miss seeing the beauty of winter. Of course shoveling, plowing, or trudging through snow, as well as covering every part of your body with five layers before you walk to the mailbox, can be somewhat of a hassle but there's nothing like that beautiful, first glittery snowfall.

If you don't participate in any snow sports or activities, it can be a terribly long three or four months here in Wisconsin. Some people even get depressed, feeling as though they're practically locked inside their homes, but I want to open your eyes to an exhilarating sport you can experience from five years old until ninety.

Snowmobiling is fun, easy and for the whole family. I started when I was five years old and have loved it ever since. Where do I even begin; there are so many positive outcomes to snowmobiling. The places you get to see, the people you get to meet, the feeling is extraordinary. I've seen countless deer, turkeys, pheasants, and sometimes even a bear or a wolf. Snowmobiling takes you through woods, swamps, fields, cities, over bridges, through tunnels and valleys. Most snowmobilers get giddy just smelling the first smell of two-stroke exhaust of the winter.

My family and I are part of the Ozaukee SnoDrifters Club and every year we plan two club rides. One is just for adults and the other is called the kids ride where all the club members bring their kids along for the fun. On the Kids ride we amount to thirty to forty sleds, imagine watching us crossing a road up north. Since my mom and dad were club members before I was born, I was able to grow up with these people so they're practically family. I know if I ever ask them for a favor, they will do their best to help me out.

But one of the main reasons I snowmobile is because of the camaraderie it creates. I am convinced that one of the reasons I am so close with my family is because we snowmobile together. Being able to experience the same sites, to race each other across the lake even though you know mom and dad have faster sleds, goofing off when the trail gets a little monotonous. Snowmobiling with family or friends definitely makes winter more fun and exciting. These are the memories that I will remember and re-tell forever.

If you find your winters boring, annoying, or even depressing, maybe you belong in Florida, but maybe you really just need to take up snowmobiling. I recommend trying it out, because once you do, you'll never want to lock yourself in the house for winter again.
