| What are
the factory recommended service intervals for my bike? Harley-Davidson recommends an initial service at 1,000 miles on 2004 and newer models. After the initial service, scheduled maintenance is recommended at 5,000 mile intervals. Earlier models years prior to 2004 had a service interval of 2,500 miles. The 10,000 mile service intervals include more extensive maintenance to the chassis than the 1K and 5K services and require additional parts and labor. Maintaining your motorcycle in accordance with factory service intervals is highly recommended to keep your motorcycle in top condition. |
| What is
the Prepaid Maintenance Plan? The Prepaid Maintenance Plan is available on all new bike purchases and allows you to ride worry free for up to 3 years. It includes all factory recommended services, tires, brake pads, batteries and spark plugs according to factory specifications. It also includes benefits such as a fine wash and detail with each service, winter storage preparation, fuel fill up with each scheduled service and priority appointments. The Prepaid Maintenance Plan can be financed with your bike purchase to ensure no out of pocket expenses for the duration of the plan. Contact a sales staff member for more information. |
| What does
my factory warranty cover? The factory warranty on all new Harley-Davidson Motorcycles is 2 years from the date of purchase with no mileage restrictions. It covers problems with the engine, transmission, primary drive, suspension, steering assembly, brake system, fuel system, cooling system, electrical system, instruments and gauges and seals and gaskets. Most common maintenance items are not included with this coverage. Also, certain aftermarket modifications to your motorcycle may void this coverage. Be sure to inquire about modifications you wish to make to your motorcycle to ensure they will not affect your warranty coverage. For more information, contact our service department. |
| Are there
Extended Warranty Options for my motorcycle? Yes! You can extend the warranty coverage on your new or used motorcycle for up to an additional 5 years after the factory warranty expires. This coverage is available on all new motorcycles and used motorcycles up to 10 years old with fewer than 75,000 miles. The Extended Service Plan can be purchased for new motorcycles at the time of purchase or up to the date the factory warranty coverage expires*. Extended Service Plans on used motorcycles must be purchased at the time of delivery. For more information on the Harley-Davidson Extended Service Plan, contact our Finance Department or ask your sales person. |
| What work
is performed during factory scheduled maintenance? Your factory scheduled maintenance includes much more than just an oil change! Belts and chains often require adjustment. Clutch and throttle cables need to be lubricated and readjusted. Wheels and spokes are inspected, fluids changed, electrical systems checked, fasteners checked, etc, etc. The list goes on... In addition, your motorcycle must be serviced according to the service and maintenance schedule shown in your Harley-Davidson owner's manual to qualify for Extended Service Plan coverage. |
| What is a
Dynamometer? Cedar River Harley-Davidson has a dynamometer available for our customers to measure rear wheel horsepower and torque as well as diagnosing problems with your motorcycle that can only be duplicated under load. This machine is also a helpful tool to "dial in" your motorcycle after performance upgrades to ensure smooth running and maximum power. If you would like to schedule a run or have additional questions, contact Noot in our service department. |
| What
should I do to my motorcycle before storage? Unfortunately, many here in the Midwest have to put the bikes away as the weather changes and wait patiently until Spring to roll it out of the garage for that first ride. It is important to take a couple steps before putting it away to make sure it's ready to go when you are. Start by adding a fuel stabilizer to the tank to prevent starting problems. It is also recommended to change all of the engine lubricants prior to storage. A battery tender can be used to provide a trickle charge and prevent the battery from draining during storage. We offer all of these services with our Winter Storage available starting October 1st. Contact our Service Department for details. |
