What does the increased enforcement of modified motorcycle exhausts have to do with clean air? The CMDA supports the enforcement of noise laws from ALL sources – autos with noisy radios and mufflers, construction or loud house parties.SB 435 still contains the smog check provisions, and we are concerned that they will remain, or be amended into something worse.If SB 435 is amended into a bill to step up forcing riders to return their modified exhausts to stock, dealers could be very negatively affected.Excessive motorcycle noise is another issue completely, has nothing to do with clear air, and should be considered separately.Comments from CMDA:Motorcycles do not contribute enough pollution to warrant being included in a smog check program.There are already enough noise laws to cite owners who replace their exhaust systems to make them louder.A state with a $24 billion deficit can’t afford the cost for peace officers to be trained to identify non-stock motorcycle mufflers.No legal aftermarket catalytic converter exhausts systems exist for sale. What can a consumer do if they must replace their catalytic muffler and they can’t find a stock one?
